Quote# 195

BTW, since the flag is considered a living thing, I say anyone who burns one should be charged with murder. They would if they burned a person to death now wouldn't they? They're both living things!!

Yahweh, you know a God-Fearing Conservative Patriot is ALWAYS consistent, you just have to change the time/date stamp. ;)

Even being vegan wouldn't get him off the hook, if you take his words literally, Yahweh - plants are living things too! (As are bacteria - better not take any antibiotics unless you're willing to live with millions of murder charges!)

Yeah, we think because we can't hear those carrots scream that they're not being tortured by having their skin ripped off and then thrown in boiling water.

I think I'll have to be a breatharian.

If the flag is a living thing... wouldn't it be illegal to strap it up with rope and hoist on a pole?? I'm pretty sure that's not legal to do with a human.

And rolling it up to put in the closet! THE HUMANITY!

Well, the flag is a living thing, and it clearly contains no DNA, therefore all forms of life could not possibly have originated from a common ancestor.

That's it. I've only read about fifteen of these things and I'm ready to take up nihilism.

Well, technically, eating meat isn't killing a living thing, since the animal is already dead (unless you eat it live)

Where do flag babies come from? Do they grow up on flag farms?

Now, I can see why they'd be upset over flag burning, but this comment just struck me as ironic:

Unfortunately, too many of our membership have been raised with concepts of courtesy so that your B.S. is tolerated.

1. This guy is idiotic in being so unaware of science that he actually states that the US flag is actually a living thing. I'd like to see how he proves it.

2. Not to mention that we kill living things every day-- we (the human race) are ardent bacteria killers (http://textbookofbacteriology.net/control.html), not to mention plants and animals. By this guy's thinking, every human should be charged with murder.

To me flag burning is like a white person saying the \"N\" word. It should be constitionaly protected as free speech, but no should pity you if your ass gets kicked for doing it.

On that note, I have ceremonially burned many flags to properly retire them as per the US Flag Code. If the flag was alive ceremonial burning and anti-America burning should be equally as wrong.

Actually it would if it was made out of organic cloth...

Hmmmmm, would this be all flags, or just the silly tricolour one with all those stars and stripes on it?

The Lybian flag is 100% green. Should we kill anyone who cuts up green cloth?

The flag is not alive any more than your left sock is alive. And murder is more than just the killing of living things. When's the last time you got arrested for murder for having a barbecue?

As a twenty year navy signalman, I must be guilty of over a hundred counts of murdering a flag, then. The proper way to dispose of a flag that is too damaged to repair and permanently stained or soiled is...
Burning!

Oh, yes, the military burns many flags, sometimes ceremoniously, sometimes just as a chore, but always privately.

I may offend some people for saying this, but I honestly can't see what's the big deal with flag burning.

I doubt the flag means the same thing to any two Americans; one might find it sacred and another garbage, and because this is America that ought to be accepted.

I personally have no desire to damage a flag, but I think other people should have the right to fire one up if that's really the statement they want to make (and it's their personal property). It doesn't actually hurt anyone.

Also... the USA has spent a good deal of time shitting all over other people's sacred things/beliefs/symbols, and our flag is not especially precious. It seems kind of silly that it's okay to put a flag on a t-shirt or lunchbox or sneakers, but if it's nylon and belongs on a flagpole then suddenly it's a big deal!
