Quote# 18671

You need to know that Satan and evil spirits are very strategic. Jesus said in John 10:10a that it is the thief that comes to steal, kill, and to destroy. That is the goal of our spiritual enemies, but how they go about to accomplish that in a person’s life is very much planned out and strategic. Satan and evil spirits tempt a person in the weak areas of their life. Where do these weaknesses come from in a person’s life? There are many different ways that demons gain entrance into a person’s life: generational curses, evil soul-ties, doors of sin that you opened in your own life, or something that someone did to you, such as molestation, rape, abuse, rejection, and abandonment to name a few.

Generational curses trip many people up in life---including Christians. Simply put, generational curses are legal rights or open doors for demons to torment a person and a family line with a weakness to a specific sin or an infirmity until it is broken in the Name of Jesus. How is it that a Pastor of a mega-church falls into the sin of homosexuality? The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination in the sight of God (Lev. 20:13; Romans 1:26-27). I can guarantee that a person that is homosexual has one of two things happening in their life or both. First, many times if you dig into the family history of a homosexual, you will find out that several family members had that same weakness in their life; a generational curse is present in the family line. Secondly, that individual was molested, raped, or abused, which caused them to turn to a perverted and sinful lifestyle. God loves the person, but He hates the sin and expects them to repent and seek spiritual help. Just because a generational curse is active in your life, you still have the ability to resist the sin. It is simply a legal right for the enemy to torment you in your life until it is broken in the Name of Jesus.

First, many times if you dig into the family history of a homosexual, you will find out that several family members had that same weakness in their life; a generational curse is present in the family line.
At the same time, there is no heritable component of homosexuality; it's just something you choose.

General curse? Try genetic predisposition, and take that step into the 21st century!

So if a pastor of a megachurch \"falls into the sin of homosexuality,\" it's not his fault; it's that darned demonic influence of a generational curse -- i.e., the devil made him do it!

This is just a lame attempt to excuse prominent Christians caught in their hypocrisy.

And, as Doctor Whom (great name, by the way!) implied, what this joker calls \"generational curses\" in most circumstances would be called \"genetics.\"

I guess that in your family there are several generations of idiots.

Secondly, that individual was molested, raped, or abused

The American Psychiatric Association disagrees with you on that. There is no link b/w sexual assault and orientation.

And yes, this does contradict all the claims that being gay is a choice.

Generational curses? Huh. 'cause the _last_ chapter in John went something like...

\"As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man born blind.

\"His disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?'

\"Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God's works might be revealed in him.'\"

I'm sure Jesus meant to say something about 'evil soul-ties' or 'something someone did to him', but that got cut out by some heretic monk in the 13th century or something.

Satan sounds quite efficient, I must say. And much more powerful than your lazy-ass god. Just who do you worship again?

Pastor James Brandt doesn't seem to understand the word \"legal\" in either its civil or spiritual (of or pertaining to the doctrine that salvation is gained by good works rather than through free grace) contexts, but that's hardly the biggest problem with the above.

Or maybe homosexuality is genetic?

So by allowing demons and evil spirits to continuously torment a family across generational lines your god demonstrates his love?
And what is this bullshit about molestation, rape, or other abuse allowing a greater chance of demonic possession?
Is your god that much of a sadist that he has to allow a victim to continue to be victimized?
You still find this god worthy of worship?

Okay, so if this \"hypothetical\" pastor of a megachurch becomes gay, it's because of a curse.

But if some random dude decides he's gay, it's an active choice and he's going to burn in Hell for it.

Right.

Very long ago the priests said that if you followed God's rules you would prosper in life. Trouble was, it was pretty obvious to just about everyone that this wasn't true. In a next-to-lawless society those who prospered were those who lied, bullied and cheated.
So the priests came up with the 'Generational Curse' - 'OK, so you might prosper, but your children will suffer, for generations'.
This works for a while, but produces another problem: the people realise it basically isn't fair.
So, and this is the good one: invent an 'afterlife'. There's no Heaven or Hell after death in the early part of the Old Testament, just 'sheol', nothingness. But if you get your just deserts in Heaven or Hell, well, no-one comes back from the dead so no-one can argue with it!
Of course, there's still the problem of eternal torment being incompatible with a loving God, but at the end of the day 'He moves in mysterious ways'. Who are you to question him?
It's a bit sad that the 'Generational Curse'is still being kept alive by fundies.

I find more and more that those \"generational curses\" this fellow mentions take place in families (and church leaderships) of rabidly fundamentalist christians.

Generational curses exist, but they're not demonic in nature. Spirits aren't the ones that torment you with your parents' flaws -- your parents are.
