Maybe we can just wish AIDS away. Ever think of that?

While we're at it, let's ban straight sex, considering straight women make up the majority of cases today.

Just a little comment about the spread of AIDS:
The single worst region (for AIDS) today is Burma. Why? Because the government there has decided that AIDS doesn't exist, and has banned it's mention in public.
This, of course, is utterly insane.
But more than that, it also means that no one there can be educated in ways to prevent the disease, to one can receive medicine for it's symptoms, and no one can be warned of it's dangers.
The spread is continuing through one of Burma's main exports (opiates - interavenous drug use) and prostitution along the roads coming from Burma into other nations.
Gosh! For some unknown reason, the government simply telling people not to have sex or do drugs isn't working. Can anyone, anyone at all, think why?

Well, in a perfect (Christian) world... but given that HIV is here and, for the forseeable future, unlikely to leave us, isn't the compassionate stance one that involves the promotion of safe sex and education? You can easily hate the sin and love the sinner, but it's a little difficult to show love to those who've popped their clogs because they either weren't informed of the danger inherent in unprotected sex or didn't have access to condoms.

Sex won't just 'go away' because you don't like it, anymore then my cat won't eat a can of tuna if I leave it on the floor. If you think you can inject your morals into instinct and drives of the human body and mind, it's no wonder you believe in imaginary people.

Three fourths?
Perhaps if you raised you IQ above 50 and learnt what a quarter was people might listen to what you say.
They'd still ignore it but they might let you finish.

1)Most needle-using drug addicts find it difficult to stop that behavior.
2) When did we attempt wide distribution of condmos and find it to fail? We have attempted widespread abstinence-only sexed, and it's failed.

@CousinTed--I like the asymmetry of that extra DIRTY FAGGOTS! hanging off the end myself. It makes the composition less static.

Lesbians are far less likely to contract HIV from each other than straight people are. Perhaps we should forbid your chosen behavior, seeing as it puts women at risk.
Gay men and IV drug users (as well as other people in other risk groups) need not transmit the virus in their activity. You can't give someone a virus you don't have, so let HIV negative people have drugs and sex amongst themselves, and positive amongst themselves, never the twain shall meet, and we're all good for orgies and drugs.
Condom distribution programs have been shown to change behavior and lower rates of infection. Simply telling people "don't participate in an activity that transcends all cultures and is an essential part of the human experience" doesn't really work. It's a bit like saying "you, don't eat," and saying it's the only way to avoid food poisoning.

fundies, and indeed most Xians, have been trying to stop extra-marital sex since they gained a place at the top table. Guess what? They failed - year on year, bastard by bastard they failed. But they're still trying, despite people dying through ignorance, they prefer to preach abstinance than face and deal with the world.

If we eliminated homosexual male sex and intravenous drug use, HIV would be reduced by at least three fourths in this country.
And if we eliminated sex altogether, HIV would be wiped out in a generation. Your point?
Both are unnecessary, chosen behaviors.
So is smoking, but you guys seem to beat the "my body, my problem" drum. McDonalds is pretty much the definition of unnecessary and unhealthy. Let's shut it down, too.
Schools need to make sure this point is absolutely clear in the minds of every student in health education.
They are. Insofar as saying that unprotected sex has several inherent risks...hetero OR homosexual.
Attacking AIDS through wide distribution of condoms is a complete failure.
Why, because HIV still exists? Guess what? Condoms only work when they're used. And when used, they cut the risk of infection dramatically. 100%? No. But a fuck of a lot more than just ignoring the issue.
Do we want to keep promoting sex, or do we want to save lives?
How about we educate kids on the risks of sex, and then teach them that if they choose to engage in it, how to do it safely. Unthinkable, I know.
Or- do some influential people have financial ties to the condom and contraceptive manufacturers? Is this an example of corruption and big business at work in exploiting poor Third World people?
Yes, it's the evil big business making money handing out something, promising an effect that fails miserably. For what? I dunno about you, but if something doesn't work...I WON'T BUY IT! They'd be out of business in a matter of months! Not to mention...why? For the joy of doing evil? Fuck, I present to you, the C.E.O. of such a company.
If homosexual sex is a leading cause of HIV in the U.S., doesn't it make sense to teach people to not engage in these acts?
Except as I recall, straight black women are the fastest growing group in terms of new infections. Should we teach them not to have sex?
Perhaps "gay" social establishments should close until the HIV rates are severely reduced.
You seek to criminalize homosexuality...but just to lower HIV rates. It's for the good of everyone...fuck off.
And no students should be encouraged to enter homosexuality through "gay" clubs or tolerance lessons.
None are. They're just given a haven where they can openly admit who they are without fear of reprisal.

Why don't we just ban all sex involving vaginal or anal penetration with a penis for a few years? It would eliminate the main method of HIV transmission, but there would be other fringe benefits! More straight men would actually start learning to perform cunnilingus effectively. Gay men would rediscover our collectively self-chosen construction of sexuality instead of falling into the heterocentrist and heterosexual-invented "only anal sex is real gay male sex" pile of shit. Lesbians could just sit back and mock their more HIV-vulnerable friends while continuing on with their sex lives uninterrupted.
OK, not being serious here, but...

Teenagers are going to have sex, whether their parents like it or not. So we have to teach them how to have safe sex, and how to avoid STDs, AIDS and unwanted pregnancies.
What do you people have against sex anyway? It's kinda nice, isn't it?
Heterosexual sex is a leading cause of HIV in Africa, should we teach the Africans not to engage in these acts?
Perhaps all bars, restaurants, hotells, and all other places where you can meet and socialize with heterosexuals should close until the HIV rates are severely reduced.
You can't "enter into homosexuality" any more than you can enter into left-handedness. Only bisexual and ambidextrous people can choose.

*sigh* It's not just male homosexual sex and intravenous drugs. It's IV drugs and unprotected sex. I was first discovered amongst the gay male community because that group was, at that time, the most likely to have unprotected sex.
However, it's no longer the fucking eighties, k?
