Quote# 17557

I don't have films that portray modern philosophies or fashions, have sexually questionable material in them, or are non/anti-christian in general theme... When I go movie shopping, I rule out 99.5% of everything out there. Most of my films were released before 1965 or take place during/prior to WWII. Exceptions include a few modern films such as Star Wars, Narnia, and Lord of the Rings.

Bottom line? If the women don't wear dresses and traditional family structures aren't found in the film, you won't find it in my collection. If there's blaitant sin in it you certainly won't find it there. If Christ isn't in one form or another elevated or endorsed by the spirit and character of the movie, it goes (a) back to the store it came from or (b) into the trash can... no regrets about it. I hate liberalism and compromise, and I will until the day I die.

A liberal mindset has crept through our society following the second world war... bringing us to the brink of social colapse. We now are forced to fight a new war of right and wrong-- only this time around, in an atmosphere that denies the existance of both.

In other words you have difficulty functioning in the real world and prefer to withdraw into an imaginary realm of fantasy where nothing truly bad ever happens. Try coming up out of your mother's basement once in a while and actually engaging with people. You'll discover that most of them aren't as bad or as scary as you think - atheists included (shock, horror!!!!)

Where the F is the Christian content in Lord of the Rings, Narnia or Star Wars?

Lord of the Rings makes no mention of religion and Gandalf is a wizard.

Well I'd hate to be Joshua Howard.

Where the F is the Christian content in Lord of the Rings, Narnia or Star Wars?

The cnronicles of Narnia were nothing but christian allegory. There are definate parallels between christianity and Star Wars (virgin conception of Anakin Skywalker for one). Although you're right - The Lord of the Rings is full of witchcraft so pffft. :)

Good job. Now if she reads this she'll have to throw away the LotR trilogy too. Then she'll be down to a video library total of 9.

How 'bout porn? They scream 'oh god!'

That real world is a pretty scary place, iddn't it josh?
I've got some movies that would curl your eyeballs.

Like the babble, this is self contradictory.

Exceptions include a few modern films such as Star Wars, Narnia, and Lord of the Rings.

Lord of the Rings pictures witchcraft as a good force and takes place during a great war(thou shalt not kill).

I like the last bit, where he claims that liberalism is the cause of the social tension, as obviously all those negros were happy being seperate, women happy stuck at home raising kids, every kid loved jesus and I myself was never born to gleefully point out how horribly false it all is.

I say set fire to his house and have him tell the fire deparment jesus will put it out.

Is Josh aware that when Christ was alive, nobody wore pants? Is it only women who must dress traditionally?

Better throw away your panties, Christian women, they're a relatively recent invention. Looks like you'll be going commando from now on.

Wasn't gollum nekkid?

Sorry Pincess Leia wore a golden bikini in Return of the Jedi.

I haven't seen it, but don't tell me they put pants on Mr Tumnus?

Wow, and I thought *I* was a prude about movies for just trying to avoid those with excessive gore or shock value and, in general, those with adultery depicted in them. Not only am I comparatively open-minded compared to this guy, but at least I try to be more consistent in my cinematic judgment than this.

Well, in Joshua's defense, Tolkien was a Christian, and Gandalf's resurrection after the battle with the Balrog is considered by some to be a deliberate parallel to the Crucifixion.

But yeah, this is really sad. I don't want to know what his music collection looks like...

When Princess Leia wasn't in that space bikini she was totally butch.

She probably also has inadvertant incestuous thoughts about Luke too.

That's like three strikes against her.

Han Solo was a \"spice smuggler.\"

Im sorry to ask, in which form appears Christ in Star wars, Narnia or Lord of the Rings, which cannot be symbollically interpreted either in other movies?

What's unliberal about the Star Wars movies? Those have blatant \"the spiritual is all that matters, the physical is nothing compared to what the spirit can do\" themes in them. I mean can you say Gnostic much?

What about Transformers? It's coming out Tuesday on DVD.

And, as a matter of freaking fact, atheist have right and wrong. We call them laws and they help us figure out what to do with ourselves.

... what the fuck? Has this guy ever read the bible? You know, the wholesome bits, where God gets all pissed because they didn't kill all the women, children, and animals like he told them? Or the bit with a tent peg being driven (by a woman -- the kind of 'untraditional role' you'd reject) into someone's skull?

Yeah. I mean, the idea that 'there is no original sin' in The Elephant Man must deeply offend you. And the moral of 'tolerance' in To Kill A Mockingbird must shock your values, plainly. Disregarding great movies because they don't whack you in the face with a plastic Jesus repeatedly is... just... stupid. I'm sure I can find something in the bible that says what you're doing is going to send you to Hell.

Eowyn dressed up as a man so she could fight in the war, Leia wore pants on Endor, and there is no traditional family structure what so ever in any of them!

Darth Vader... For Freedom

Illuvatarwen, you might be interested to know that in the novelization of "Revenge of the Sith," Yoda says that Qui-Gon will teach Obi-Wan a way to maintain his physical form and translate his body into the Force as well. This is why we see Jedi retaining their physical features when they become spirits in the classic trilogy. The novel almost hints that it is the Jedi equivalent of a 'bodily resurrection.'

...That was really geeky, wasn't it? :p

@TheUnholyMint: If anything, the whole Leia/Luke/Vader family scenario merits an episode on "Jerry Springer."
