This is something that really annoys me about politics today. People confusing social issues with economic issues. \"Left/Right\" really only applies to economic issues, such as welfare, unions, trade, tarrifs, taxes, market regulations, pollution control, government spending, etc.

Social Issues, such as civil rights, drug legalization, gun rights, freedom of speech, gay rights, right to privacy, right to form organizations, right to fair+speedy trial, freedom of/from religion, etc. are really on the 'Libertarian vs Authoritarian' scale.

This guy seems to be in favor of rights for all races, but is against abortion, which means to me is that he is not a complete social authoritarian, but definitely not a moderate either.

What disgusts me about so many Americans today is that they focus exclusively on or two small issues, but ignore everything else that the particular candidate is in support of. I was explaining to a friend all the bad things that Bush has done economically and socially. He then said to me, \"But Bush is against gay marriage and abortion and that's what's important\". I couldn't help but think how stupid this guy was for saying that.

Some people... We should keep telling people that god doesn't punish people in this world. He \"rewards\" them. Just look at Job, Joseph or some other nut. Just keep praying and he'll: say \"This was just a joke, you know, kidding around amongst friends. Here have some stuff back.\"

And the church was not against abortion back in the day. It was at most a misdemeanor with a fine up to a few sheckle (sp?).

And Belgium is not influential? It's just the capital of the EU (Together with Straatsburg).

Well, I don´t know what´s more hilarious, he´s not conveying of the ideas or how he distorts reality. Let´s go to the most evident point, you say that the church has the same views on homosexuality, do you know that they are no more excommunicated from the church?, second, let´s talk about contraconceptives, do you say they´re a form of abortion, how is it possible, if no child is conceived?, are you hinting that the rhymth method, totally tolerated by the church, or just the period is a type of abortion?. You have to say so, because you look ridiculous. AND THE CHURCH HAS CHANGED A GOOD DEAL IN THE LAST 200 YEARS. We don´t hold masses in Latin anymore, to begin with.

The old \"killing babies\" shtick. Catholic George is apparently unaware of the stages of human gestation (5,500,000 hits on Google). There ain't no baby, George, till after birth. After birth it's a baby, and killing it would be infanticide.

What none of these \"pro-lifers\" seem to grasp is that there is no way whatsoever that you can stop abortion. If you outlaw legal abortion the effect would be the same as when they outlawed alcohol.

Ok... I tuned out of the stupid to prevent my brains from becoming liquid. Even so, I don't think the Catholic church stayed the exact same as it was 2000 years ago. Partly because I don't think it was around 2000 years ago. Oh, and unless you can prove to me that cars were blessed by the Catholic Church many, many years ago, then I won't believe you at all.
