\"create a country within a country wherein our values will be upheld by law, if only to protect ourselves from these people.\"
Funny, didn't this happen about 2000 years ago with a bunch of religious fanatics who wanted to keep the bad people out?

We should create a 'country within a country' to keep fundies out

I Broke Free
Of course, it’s all clear to me now. If I refuse to believe everything you say then I must be possessed by a demon! What else could possible explain why I would refuse to accept the incredible “gift” that would make me just like you?

I can think of many heterosexuals who drink heavily and do drugs. Whats your point?

My fist thought, too.
I think they should create their own theocracy, just not on the continental US. I suggest they re-locate en masse to Guam. Then the rest of the world can send all their Christian fundies there, too, and the world will be a much nicer place.

In your college days you were a teenager or in your early twenties, right? Heavy drinking, drug-use and general lawlessness is not that uncommon among teenagers and people in their early twenties, regardless of sexual orientation, stupid. They're not evil, they are just testing the boundaries, most of us will eventually calm down and become more moderate with various substances and lawlessness.
Were you ready to listen to them, or were you just pushing your agenda onto them? In their eyes you're the one who refused to let your dogma go. Perhaps you're the one who's possessed by demons?
America is just as Christian as it has ever been, if anything it looks more Christian now than before.
Most other western countries move towards enlightenment and agnosticism, but USA (or rather some parts of it) seems to join the Middle East in their convulsive clinging to the old ways, the old religions, the old "values".
Those "values" seem to be:
We're right and you are wrong.
If you have money and power you can covet everyone else's money and power, and have as many mistresses and "natural" children as you want, but common people sin and will end up in hell when they covet thy neighbour's TV or commit adultery.
Gay people are icky.
Children are the property of their parents.
Etc, etc...

Lying for the sake of attention is generally considered to be wrong.
