It is a very, very sad day indeed when people exist such as those posting comments for this article.
The whole story has not necessarily been told. There are many possibilities.
When I was a little girl if I was misbehaving or acting up with my friends enough to irritate the bus driver we would all be forced to sit at the front of the bus so the driver could keep a close eye on us. Kids obviously hated being up front.
Who's to say the white kids weren't misbehaving in some way and were made to sit up front for that reason and thus the black students had to sit in the rear?
Why do blacks automatically assume racism?
Why do blacks automatically assume the victim role?
This victim's mentality must stop. It is a chain that holds us all back. I am disgusted when I see my brothers and sisters knee jerk reactions to anything that could be perceived as racism. Anything that could be perceived as "holding us down" which, as everybody else knows, is just a form of excuse.
I will not pass judgment until I have heard the whole story from both sides, however I will pass judgment now on the people looking to use this story as an excuse to assume their favorite role of victim.
You are the problem.

Not fundie, and actually a sometimes valid viewpoint. Minorities have, at times, taken the view that anything negative MUST be racism. A black child misbehaves and has to sit in the corner, so it's racism. An asian child fails to win an award at his school, it must be racism. Yet if it were white children in the exact same situation, racism wouldn't even come UP.
I support the idea that the mentality that everything is racism has to stop, and people need to judge things solely on the situation and what happened, not the color of whoever was involved.

I LIKED to sit at the front. I got to sit on the first aid kit near the busdriver. I was the only one facing towards the back of the bus!

This post seems too rational to belong on FStDT. I agree on not passing judgment without hearing both sides, and I agree that people should not play the victim card as a kneejerk reaction.

The only thing wrong I see with this is the generalisation that all blacks see everything as racism.

\"Why do blacks automatically assume racism?

Why do YOU automatically assume that black people do these things? Most do not -- only a small but noisy subgroup of them.
THIS is the fundie segment of this post; it's not nearly as vicious as a lot of stuff we see displayed here, but it is still a solid indicator of pernicious racism.

Well, another problem is the fact that it was nine kids to two seats.

Don't be fooled people, even the most eloquent and well reasoned agruments can be fundy or bigoted in nature. Just because we are used to dealing with people that are barely literate, don't assume that is a quality of all fundies or bigots.

This actually seems like a good comment, and if I understand the speaker correctly the speaker is black.

It strikes me as odd that ALL the white children would be misbehaving. And telling the black kids to sit in the back as opposed to the whites to sit in the front.
Just my 2 cents.

This isn't really a fundie. In fact, she has several points, though she's generalizing too much. But there's hardly anything religious in this post.

Why do blacks automatically assume racism?
Maybe your perception that this is the case has something to do with living in a white-supremacist system...

Because the back seat is worse and because segregation shows that people consider them inferior. Or can people misbehave just for their skin colour?

Because blacks who misbehave don´t get awards. Occam´s razor.
