First, try to get it through your bony lttle head that while Marxism is a branch of liberal thought, very few liberals are actually Marxists especially in the U.S..
Second, (turn up your hearing aid so that you can get this too) the ACLU fights for people's rights, not just liberals, not just conservatives, all people. They are often fighting against you and your pals because you are the people often stepping on the rights of others.

The ACLU exists to protect everyone's rights. Fred Phelps is a vicious, bigoted hate-monger and very probably clinically insane, but he has the right to say what he thinks, just like you do. I won't pin all of them on the far right (though most are much, much closer to the far right than the far left), because they tend to defy simple classification, but I know of none I would classify as \"far left\" (except maybe PETA, and they're not really a hate group, though their tactics are sometimes depressingly similar).

To be fair to the raving fundie Panacea, though, most of the cases the ACLU takes on
do have a decidedly left-of-center bent. The instances of the ACLU protecting Fred Phelps, neo-Nazis, etc., are very few and far between -- one would be tempted to say they are \"token\" cases, taken on by the ACLU to give them an air of defending \"both sides\" of American freedoms that they perhaps don't deserve.
