"Tonight's results are clear - the people of Alabama deemed Roy Moore unfit to serve in the US Senate. I hope Senator-elect Doug Jones will do the right thing and truly represent Alabama by choosing to vote with the Senate Republican Majority. "

How would that be the 'right thing?' Trump made it clear, if you want a republican voting in the senate, you have to vote for a republican.
The people made their choice. They declined the republican voter.
The 'right thing' now would be to vote as he promised he would in his campaign. So that they get what they asked for.
I hope Senator-elect Doug Jones will do the right thing and truly represent Alabama by choosing to vote with the Senate Republican Majority
I bet you prayed for now Roy Less to win.
Where is your 'God' now...?!
Don't forget: The people of Alabama voted in Doug Jones on his policies ; just the same as when the people of the constituency of Hull East voted in Karl Turner (Labour) to be our MP.
For the third time on 8th June.
Hull has always been Red: Labour. Alabama - a Deep Red state - has turned Blue .
Think the impossible can't happen? Consider the upcoming midterms, then what's just happened not 24 hours ago: and think again.
There's an old saying in political circles here in Britain: 'A week is a long time in politics'. Well, 8th June proved that a day is a long time in politics.
Cory, just how stupid do you think Doug Jones is? You must think he's as big a dumbass as you are. If Alabama voters wanted the republican filth candidate, they would have voted for him.
@ Moose-kun- Maybe, if the blue momentum continues, we can make inroads in Texas. If Texas goes blue, the republican party is dead. Dead, & will not be resuscitated.
Sadly there's sorta maybe a point there: If he doesn't throw some bones to the 70% of white Alabamians who voted for Moore, as well as the small number of people who tossed aside their party loyalties because Moore was just too much, then he risks being a one-termer.
On the other hand, if he's disappointing to black people and white democrats, then he also risks being a one-termer.
It's a delicate balancing act which may turn out to be a no-win situation, both for him personally, and the long-term chances for Democrats to turn the state purple.
How is this fundie? It makes sense for a Red State Democrats to vote Right of a Blue State Democrat.
I'm thrilled by the results, but I have to admit I feel a little bad winning the way we did, anti-Moore rather than pro-jones. So, I can see their point.
@WatcherAzazel:
Speaking as a Democrat who lives in a Red State, I disagree. You can't win over the people by just being "Republican Lite"; 99% of the time (when the candidate isn't someone like Moore), they'll just vote for the "real thing" instead of the "cheap imitation." You have to be different and offer a real, significant alternative.
@Thanos6: Its not about winning, it's about a certain degree of honor. If a Republican won a Blue State due to similar scandals, we'd want them to recognize that people weren't voting for their policies, and hope they moderated accordingly.
...on the other hand, that's exactly how I feel about Bush and Trump losing the popular vote, and neither of them bothered to moderate...
Confused?
