Yes - the parents were enabling the child’s obsession, the parents, not the school, are the true abusers.

There is no known scientific basis for the brain to have developed a gender different than its body. A mental impression is derived from thoughts and emotions, not anything driven by who we physically are. Something has happened, or been allowed to happen, for the child to even conceive they are not who & what their body is. An obsession has subtly crept in. And yes, the mind is capable of lying to us.
The school was trying to do the right thing - help the child out of their obsession. The parents have consigned the child to a lifetime of hormonal and physical attacks on their body to force their body to agree with their obsession. That is a lifetime of abuse they will put their body through, to satisfy an obsession. The parents are abusing a child that could still be helped.

There's lots of scientific basis for transgenderism.
Funnily enough, the ones who are allowed to realign their bodies with their brain gender are the ones that have a better mental and physical health. The ones who are forced to pretend to be their bodily sex have a higher rate of suicide and other mental problem.
You know what there is no scientific basis for? Religion; gods and goddesses. Should we help the religious out of their obsession, what they think is the "inner sense of gods"?

Most of the early studies on trans people were profoundly unscientific. The first study on their psychological state, for example, found that post-transition transgender people were more likely to have psychological issues than the general public, and concluded that transition was psychologically unhealthy. There was no comparison with pre-transition people at all. Though to be completely "fair", anyone who didn't make it through the excessively harsh and prohibitively expensive gauntlet to be allowed to transition "wasn't really trans". So they didn't have any pre-transition people who yet "qualified" as trans, thus there couldn't have been any data points anyway, as per the definitions and practices of the time.
...Plus that was before it was generally acknowledged that being in an oppressed or reviled minority is hazardous to one's mental health due to the way a lot of people treat them, so...
If you see anyone spouting that there's no scientific evidence, or that the evidence is against it, then it's good odds they refuse to accept anything other than the early studies as real.
And transgender people affect you how? You obviously don't know any, and have no medical credentials, so aside from your opinion, you really have nothing.
