Are you afraid the child will rebel once he turns 18 and turn into a promiscuous heathen when he meets the "real world"? This is possible, but he certainly would be worse off hitting the "real world" with mortal sin having stained his soul.
However, if you are vigilant and strictly correct him before he becomes addicted to it, he will greatly respect you when he grows older and continues to discover the beauty of chastity and purity. He will think, "Wow, although I didn't realize it at the time, my parents really cared for me!"

I apologize for my last post. I've changed my mind. The Catholics ARE strange.
People (children and adults) should feel guilty and ashamed if they harm someone else, or if they steal something, or if they are cruel to another person, or to an animal. Religious people can add a few more things ....shall we say a total of ten?... for which they might feel guilty. Last I looked at the list, "thou shalt not masturbate" was neither on the Top Ten little-list-o-sins, not are there any hymns which condemn masturbation.

Now all you have to do is provide a reason, other than a misunderstood Bible quote, why masturbation is shameful. Just out of curiosity, what's your opinion of nocturnal emissions? Do you go along with all the purification rituals outlined in Leviticus?

Because they can't control it with an iron fist like they can some of the others. Biological urges can't be squashed.
The greatest fear of crazy fundies is that someone in their circle might find out that their claims about punishment for "evil sins" is complete bullshit, so they work to cover up and exclude themselves from seeing these sins. But sex is a hard one to exclude oneself from, as especially teenagers tend to be drawn to it.
