Firstly you assume god to be real. Please show proof that doesn't consist of pointing out something wonderful or beautiful and saying that 'there has to be a god because how else could that be?'. That seems to be the norm when I ask that question.
Secondly, you say rebellious, mocking and insolant, again assuming there is a god. Are what we say here rebellious, mocking and insolant? Yes, but those things aren't bad. We decide to ask the questions and we are not satisfied with the answers. Scientific proof and common sense negate much of the bible. Explanations that god is all good, yet sends most of us to eternal torment does not make sense. Saying that because he made us he can torture us forever is bullshit. I bought my dog, that doesn't give me the right to torment and kill him. God introduced all of the sin in the world, he is the one who dwelt in darkness. He is the one who regretted his creations, he is the one who destroyed the entire population of the earth because he 'regretted' us. He threatens us with destruction and doesn't lift us out of bad situations. Should a god save us 'bad' children? Absolutely. He has to admit that he's made the road to him quite hard to travel. Eternal torment? He has such an ego he would torture us forever? Loving god my ass.
"No, we are supposed to bow down and worship Him because He is God, not for what we might get out of the deal. It's ALL about Him. We are here for His glory, not our own."
Again, what kind of ego are we talking about? It's not enough that he is allpowerful, allknowing, almighty god but we need to grovel as well? That's how he treats his pet project? So we worship him because he is god. Prove it. Prove a god exists and I will give it serious consideration. No proof means no god. Myself, as well as millions before me have asked for proof. Doubting Thomas? Yeah, so god knows that even jesus' disciple doubted, yet he gave Thomas proof, didn't he? For us, for the last two thousand years (assuming the rest of the bible is true) he's shown nothing. Worship what? How do I know that the spare tire in my truck isn't the lord? At least I know that it exists. Also, you say that it's not for what we get out of it. Then why is the whole system of x-tianity based on the reward/punishment system? Eternal rewards, heaven, paradise, etc. these things are promised, torture is threatened. So your angle is not going to hell, as opposed to 'getting a reward'. It's the same thing when there is only two options. The choice is heaven or hell and you say it's NOT for what we get out of it and it's only for the glory of god? You're scared of him so you opt for plan A. It IS for what you get out of it, don't delude yourself.
"I've never understood why people completely reject God their whole lives and then act indignant that He would reject them."
Among the things you don't understand is the fact that I was a christian for thirty years. I've followed bible teachings and sermons my whole life. I am not someone who is ignorant to the promises and threats of the bible. The reason I am where I am today in my belief or lack thereof is BECAUSE of the bible, and church. I'm taught to use common sense my whole life so I did, and I applied it to religion. So very many questions, no answers. Contridictory, repulsive, fantastical, outlandish, barbaric, bloodthirsty, cruel, hateful, condescending, biased, intolerant, misanthropic, misongynistic, surreal, unprovable, bi-polar book of borrowed stories and impossible feats. I accepted the fantasy for a long time, but I can't pretend it makes sense anymore. You can as much prove your god to be real as the next religion can prove theirs.
