The Suisun City man who allegedly killed his daughter-in-law after becoming upset with her because she was “disrespectful” to him pleaded not guilty Friday morning in Solano County Superior Court to a single murder charge.

Amarjit Singh, 63, appeared briefly in court alongside his public defender and a translator as he entered a plea Friday. Since his arrest last week, the man has remained in Solano County Jail on $1 million bail.

Singh was arrested March 8 around 1 a.m. by Suisun City police after allegedly confessing to killing his daughter-in-law with a hammer.

The victim, Shameena Bibi, 29, was found the morning of March 7 deceased in the garage of a home in the 800 block of Blue Bill Way in Suisun City. Bibi, a resident of Suisun City, leaves behind her husband and a 2-year-old son.

Solano County records show Singh has been involved in a dozen other court cases dating as far back at 1985. The man’s most recent case, however, is his only felony case in the county, according to court records.
