Quote# 11336

Our conscience is God telling us something is wrong. Even people who are not born-again have most likely experienced their conscience functioning. We all have a human spirit. It is this part of us that longs for God. It is this part of us that feels empty and we keep trying to fill it with things like education, job, money, sex, drugs, whatever, but nothing satisfies us until we have the Lord.

So educations, like drugs are obstacles to God?

And if that is true, why do so many people who claim to be christian get an education, a job, money and have sex? Isn't that completely pointless if you've got the \"Lord\"? I mean, if it is just a substitute you should stop using/doing/wanting it as soon as you get the real deal.

\"Your conscience is the part of you that hurts if everything else feels good.\"

I read that somewhere yesterday. Can't remember where.

Well you've obviously never had good sex then - or good friends.

The Lord is my penis; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He fucketh me beside the still waters.
He filleth my hole:
He leadeth me in the joys of screaming out for His name' sake.

Yea, though he walks through my valley in the shadow of muff,
I will fear no emissions: For thou art inside me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they pleasure me.
Thou preseneth a table before me in the preparedness of mine orgasms;
Thou annointest my head with semen; My chin runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Well said, Ace.

Did Jebus have a high school diploma? I rest my case.

\"Even people who are not born-again have most likely experienced their conscience functioning\"

No, really? Let me say again, for the record: Christians do NOT have a monopoly on morality!

<< Our conscience is God telling us something is wrong. Even people who are not born-again have most likely experienced their conscience functioning. >>

What TDR said: Christians do NOT have a monopoly on morality! If anything, they have less ground for claiming moral superiority than atheists and agnostics, since they often freely admit that they only behave out of the fear of eternal torment if they step out of line -- and even that threat is insufficient to stop an awful lot of hypocritical behavior on their part.

<< We all have a human spirit. It is this part of us that longs for God. It is this part of us that feels empty and we keep trying to fill it with things like education, job, money, sex, drugs, whatever, but nothing satisfies us until we have the Lord. >>

Says you. Yes, everyone seeks some kind of satisfaction or contentment in life, but it is the worst sort of arrogance to claim that NOBODY is ever happy until or unless he is a born-again Christian. That's just insulting.

\"Our conscience is God telling us something is wrong.\"

I do not need an imaginary friend to be my conscience.

\"Even people who are not born-again have most likely experienced their conscience functioning.\"

Yes, it's true, even atheists can have a functioning conscience.

\"We all have a human spirit. It is this part of us that longs for God.\"

Maybe, depending of the definition of \"human spirit,\" but I can assure you that my spirit does not long for God.

\"It is this part of us that feels empty and we keep trying to fill it with things like education, job, money, sex, drugs, whatever, but nothing satisfies us until we have the Lord.\"

I've tried all of those things, including \"the Lord.\"
Education - good
Job - good
Money - good, or at least, useful
Sex - GOOD
Drugs - sometimes good
The Lord - bad, a complete bust

Yes, let's outsource our conscience to a primitive society. Cheap ethics wooo hoo!

I'm quite happy. And I once wrote a brief essay titled \"God's an Asshole\" and it was all about why the Christian god is a fucking asshole. So... Is God rewarding me for that?

<<<Our conscience is God telling us something is wrong.>>>

No, no. Not God. It's a cricket.

<<<Even people who are not born-again have most likely experienced their conscience functioning.>>>

Duh. It's inborn. You don't have to be Christian to be moral. In fact, if you are Christian, you have no reason to be moral. Why bother being moral when this life is irrelevant preparation for an infinite afterlife? Christian \"morality\" is merely obedience under threat.

<<<We all have a human spirit.>>>

Define \"human spirit.\"

<<<It is this part of us that longs for God.>>>

Under this definition, there is no such thing as a \"human spirit.\"

<<<It is this part of us that feels empty and we keep trying to fill it with things like education, job, money, sex, drugs, whatever, but nothing satisfies us until we have the Lord.>>>

At least you admit that education makes you more likely to be an atheist. Based on your description of what's satisfying, it would seem you have no education, no job, and have never had sex. It is also quite arrogant of you to assume you can tell everyone that they're not really happy unless they subscribe to your beliefs.

So, when troubled people have bad conscience about doing things that are utterly unobjectionable, that's just God being an ass?

My conscience tells me without question that organized religion is wrong.

Funny. My conscience tells me that, according to the descriptions of him that many people give (including your holy book), if he existed, your god would be one evil asshole...

Funny, as a \"mom of 3\" you would think this one would have no problem with sex...oh well, go look for consistancy in religion.

Actually, Maronon, there's been some recent research that suggests there is a part of the brain that \"longs for God.\" When electrically stimulated, it produces a strong feeling of divinity or mysticism, even in those who don't believe. Interesting stuff.

If you need god, it only means you are doing the above mentioned things wrong. Also, where's love on your list?
...
Ah, I get it. God can't replace real love, right?
