When my youngest was in 2nd grade she came home with 'Oh My God.' I told her that was NOT acceptable and she was sorry. Well......20 minutes later, here it comes out of her mouth again and she said all the kids say that and she was sorry. After one more time I washed her mouth out with soap. I had to do that one more time and NEVER again has she said that phrase. I grit my teeth when I hear ANYONE say that. I HATE THATphrase almost more than others I can think of.

Plus.....I'm 42 and have NEVER said a bad word in front of my mom (rarely RARELY say any anyway), and if I DID say one, I think she'd probably fall on the floor or come slap my mouth!!!!!!! And I'd deserve it!!!!!

I'm just a sliver away from atheism and even I try to curtail my blasphemy. I try to avoid saying \"Jesus fucking Christ\" and stuff like that. It's in poor taste, unoriginal too.

I never understood that interpretation of the \"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain\" Commandment. If you think about it (how often do most fundies do that?) it's got to be something more than saying OMG in surprise. If they were to do any actual study, they'd figure out that it refers to the idea that the name of God actually has power and that one can curse a person by invoking God's wrath upon them. It's basically a prohibition against using God as magic, or using his name to vouch for your petty bullshit. How many fundies and fundy-pandering politicians have done this over the centuries?

But no, many a stupid fundie mom has interpreted it as merely a prohibition against swearing, and turning God (ironically) into a bad word. I got my mouth washed out as a child for saying 'Jesus'.
