The idea of gender as a social construct exists in an attempt to preserve the reactionary male-female roles, now that they are known to not be innate. Since social constructs can be changed, transgenderism is inevitable, the same way class mobility is inevitable once you realize that class is a social construct. The reactionary male-female roles are a form of oppression, imposed by the 1%-ers, just like class is.
For this scheme to work, it is important to the aforementioned 1%-ers that people be allowed to fulfill whichever of the two gender roles they prefer, and that we not consider why people are thinking in terms of the reactionary gender roles. I think it is because of drugs*, the portrayal of men and women in pornography, the way that a culture that permits drugs and porn will naturally have to allow things like transgenderism, and the mirror image of the reactionary gender roles that is contemporary capitalism (with the boss holding the employee in Bondage, taking a Dominant role, Sadistically, and the employee meeting Disciplined, taking a Submissive role, Masochistically); these all get people used to this paradigm.
Value is socially constructed, obviously. The problem is that we've defined people's value in terms of the way they fit the preconstructed gender roles, even to the point of mutilating their bodies to get them closer, because if you're being dominant, you're a man, damnit! Even if you were born in a woman's body!

Well, that was exhausting. The resulting argument sounds pretty convincing, if you've never met a trans person (or don't realize it) and are so completely obsessed with power politics that you think everything is about the class struggle. Tomboy behavior among trans women is about as common as amoung cis women, and vice-versa (is there a convenient compound word for tomboy's spear counterpart?).
* I still don't understand what drugs have to do with any of this.
