Hold up. If you buy meat from the store, that's not vegan. If you take advantage of factory farms and actively participate in animal exploitation then you are not vegan. You can't call yourself vegan to absolve your responsibility for animal cruelty.

I can't even begin to explain to you how ignorant this is. YOU ARE ALREADY COMPROMISING THE HEALTH OF YOUR PETS by feeding them an unnatural meat diet composed of processed foods. The standard household cat's diet is garbage, leftovers from the factory farms fortified with chemicals for preservation and to keep the cats off their death bed. Just because there is real meat in your cat food doesn't mean your cats are getting a good diet and to suggest that vegan food is not nutritional only because it doesn't have meat is a type of ignorance I deal with every day.

A vet online suggests feeding a cat a vegan diet is like feeding a horse beef. It's gut was not evolved to handle a lot of vegetable matter and it isn't getting the nutrition it needs. As others have suggested, if you don't want to feed an animal meat, then simply get an animal that only eats a vegetarian diet.

You know, my dog is fed a good diet of almost exclusively real meat. With occasionally giving something else as a treat (he really seems to like dairy, like cheese & whipped cream for some reason). And you know what? Even at his advanced age of 9 years he is still very healthy and fit.
1) Contrary to vegan belief, meat is not some type of industrial waste that is intrinsically deadly poison.
2) You are mistreating your poor cat. The cat should be taken off you, you should be banned from owning animals for life and then be forced to watch thousands of videos of cute kitties playing with their humans so that you sob bitterly that you will never be able to feel that joy because you were an evil bitch who placed her batty dietary beliefs over her pet's health.

That's right--regular cat food probably isn't the optimal food for cats, but it contains all the nutrients cats need to thrive and it fits in well enough with a cat's natural diet, which in the wild consists of almost entirely meat from small wildlife.
Vegan "cat food" isn't food at all for cats, it's more akin to what you said "fortified with chemicals for preservation and to keep the cats off their death bed."
As will forever be said--why the fuck are you owning an animal that is almost 100% carnivore when you refuse to feed it it's required diet?
So why is it okay for vegans to use things made of plastic, which is made of oil, which is largely made of dead sea creatures? Shouldn't people like this only be allowed to use computers made entirely of wood? Is there some sort of time limit, after which it's okay for them to use animal products?

If you your Vegan beliefs include not wanting to feed meat to your pet, but your Vegan beliefs still allow you to be okay with owning a pet, then you have ONE choice and ONE choice only and that is to make sure the type of pet you own isn't ISN"T a carnivore species like, oh, say, a CAT.

Dude, you do realize that denying the natural diet of the animal isn't doing it any favors, right?
I understand not wanting to cause harm to an animal. Truly I do, but in the process you have taken things way too far. If you're that concerned about the crap that is put in pet food, find one that doesn't have preservatives. Freshpet is made just with meat and veggies, which is why it is stored in the cold section of the grocery store.
Or you could buy meat from an organic farm. They free range their animals, feed them only a healthy diet, don't shoot them up with antibiotics and only milk their cows according to their natural cycles (meaning they aren't over-milked and the calves get to the teat first). Buying it clean and unprocessed then cooking it yourself would be the way to go.
Just stop thinking you can raise a healthy cat without meat in it's diet. They need the Taurine and can't make it themselves. Any cat food that claims to have Taurine but not meat still has to process it from an animal-based source, which defeats the purpose of not giving the cat meat anyway.
Please...feed your cat what it needs.
