For the apologists of Islamic Jihadists. A little history lesson to keep in mind when next you wish to point out the problems within Christianity as an illustration of other "bad" religions.

Hitler was NOT a Christian. He was affiliated with Romanism but loved pagan religion especially the Thule society. And he was a left wing socialist, not the prime example of "right wing extremism"

The Oklahoma bomber was NOT a Christian. He was a left wing progressive who hated the Bible.

Jim Jones was a minister in a left wing denomination but was NOT a Christian but rather a Bible hating social justice advocate.

The Crusades were NOT an example of aggressive and violent Christianity but were one false religion (Roman Catholicism) at war with another false religion (Islam).

Tim McVeigh was involved in the Christian Identity movement, a racist religious group who believes that white Europeans are the true children of Israel, while Jews are the result of an illicit affair Eve had with Satan and black, Hispanic, and Asians are all "mud people" without souls.

It is true that Hitler had an incoherent set of beliefs which blended Christianity with Germanic paganism, so blaming either one for his actions is pretty shortsighted since it ignores that he was insane. That said, Glenn, he was far closer to you than to me.

The Oklahoma bomber was a right wing nut who hated the federal government.

Some of the Crusades started out with a defensive purpose against Islam, but others were aggressive, violent actions against Jewish and Cathar populations. And if you look at the leaders of the Protestant Reformation, I'm pretty sure many of them would have done the same as the Catholics had done. Martin Luther literally wrote a tract called "The Jews and Their Lies".

Well to be fair to all this bullshit rambling.

1) Hitler had a Christian upbringing would probably consider himself one. Still he considered Germany should return to their forgotten "Aryan heritage", that meant the recovery of pagan rituals, which would probably make a religious person consider Hitler as a heretic or at least not actually a christian. Hitler being a left wing socialist is as laughable as believing that there are nazis hiding on the Moon.
Though I would say that right wing fascist radicals have more things in common to communist radicals than they have with non bat-shit-crazy right wing oriented people.

4) Crusades were a conflict caused by political and economical interests on both sides. Religion was an excuse. I could be wrong, but it seems that Christians were the ones that started doing nasty shit (like killing surrendered innocents), but in the end both sides inflicted misery on the other, so I could call it a day.

Hitler was a Christian. The Roman Catholic church is a Christian denomination, get over it. The Nazis' first victims were communists, liberals and trade unionists.

I'm sorry Glenn but Hitler was not a socialist. The name National Socialist had absolutely nothing to do with socialism as you know it. Hitler despised the left and killed many, many socialist during the night of the long knives. I know ignorant people LOVE to tie their political enemies to Hitler and the Nazis, especially American right wingers but in reality the Nazis were right wing extremists. They are incapable of looking beyond the title National Socialist to learn what socialism and fascism actually are. North Korea is calls themselves the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea. Does anyone think North Korea is democratic in the least? Your average American right winger wouldn't know socialism if they were smacked in the face with the means of production. They simply know that cold war propaganda told them that every aspect of it was terrible despite the fact that the Soviet Union wasn't actually socialist or communist either, but that's a complicated discussion. The Nazis were fascists to the core and fascism is a right wing ideology no matter how you attempt to twist it. It simply is what it is. That doesn't mean American right wingers are anything like that. The political spectrum is a complicated and fluctuating concept but the ignorant like to portray it as static because their simple minds think it gives them an edge in their political arguments. Hitler was also very much a Christian. Maybe not a Christian like you think of one but that excuse is used all the time. No True Scotsman fallacy. He very much believed in the same god you believe in and wrote passionately in Mein Kampf about his desire to do 'god's work'. So in short, get your partisan simple minded head out of your ass!

I don't particularly like Islamic apologists but I also dislike people who use Hitler and the Nazis ignorantly to their advantage.

Well, Hitler privately said things like "The reason why the ancient world was so pure, light and serene was that it knew nothing of the two great scourges: the pox and Christianity." And both Joseph Goebbels and Albert Speer thought he wasn't a Christian. Hitler was really a "cultural Christian" in the same sense that Anders Behring Breivik declared himself.

As for this trash being quoted, it's a load of bullshit. Hitler thought the neopagan elements within Nazism (like Himmler) were idiotic superstitions, and he was such a left-wing socialist that the first people he removed from power were all members of the Communist Party of Germany and the Social Democratic Party who had been elected to the Reichstag.

The Crusades just happened to be supported by most Western Christians of the day. Strange how "true Christianity" emerged from a false religion, eh?
