Before the Civil Rights era, a popular form of entertainment (among white audiences) was the minstrel show, where white actors would paint their faces (blackface) and act outrageous to perpetuate racial stereotypes and hatred. Today that sad legacy lives on in the form of "comedians" like Stephen Colbert who practice "conservativeface." On his TV show, Colbert pretends to be a conservative and says outrageous things to make conservatives look bad. I find this behavior reprehensible. I find it despicable that anyone who pretend to espouse conservative views just to make conservatives look bad. It's perpetuating intolerance for differing opinions.
I'm hoping to start an online petition to get CBS to change their minds about Colbert. Does anyone here have experience with online petition sites? I know about Petition Online and The Petition Site. Which is better? Are there any superior alternatives to these two?

Yeah, when conservatives are denied the vote or ownership of property, or are being hanged by angry mobs, then you'll have something to complain about. Until then, STFU.

Colbert doesn't have to do anything to make conservatives look bad. The conservative side already has the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Michelle Backmann, etc. Conservatives are making conservatives look bad.

Yeah, CBS is just going to look at your petition and realize it's nothing but a bunch of butthurt by conservatives who hate to have their views lampooned.
At any rate, ridiculing your beliefs is not the same as an entire social establishment of racism. Why don't you just grow a thick skin, like conservatives often tell those they make fun of?
People have made fun of conservatives since the beginning of time. Ever heard of Monty Python's Flying Circus? South Park? Hell, go back far enough and you'll find William Shakespeare, Euripides and Cato pointed out the flaws and ridiculed people with conservative views in their times.

A conservative friend actually told me he thought it was good that Comedy Central had Colbert on after the Daily Show, to present "both sides". Sad.

The huge difference here is, of course, that Conservatives have the same rights and opportunities as Liberals do, in the American society. Black people were (and still are, to some degree) a persecuted minority. Making fun of people who are at the same or higher level in society is not seen as particularly reprehensible, as they are able to either laugh it off or defend themselves.
Yeah... about that. Get back to me when you become an oppressed minority.

Is it wrong if I kind of want to support his petition just so Colbert has to keep doing his show? I absolutely love his comedy, but I suspect once he moves to that dreadful late night talk show format, I suspect that I'll never hear from him again.
Don't you love how GoemonFan considers blackface offensive, but manages to remain blissfully unaware that it was among the (social) conservatives of the day that it was popular?
Aside from that, as everybody already pointed out, being mocked by humorists for a frankly ludicrous/heinous political position is not the same thing as being harrassed and persecuted for an innate characteristic that harms noone, and there is no need to invent new (and ultra-specific) words when perfectly serviceable ones like "satire" already exist.
